A Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on Child Rights was held in Lahore on October 21st, 2019. The goal of the Consultation, organized in collaboration with UNICEF as part of the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), is to work on a legislative review aimed at identifying gaps in legislation and prioritization of the actions that need to be taken for every child to realize their rights. Realizing the crucial role which children play for national development and the importance of helping them realize their rights, the National Parliamentary Task Force on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)created a ‘Special Committee on Child Rights-CRC’. Consisting of 10 Members of the National Assembly, the Committee is led by MNA Ms. Mehnaz Akber Aziz, an eminent child rights activist. The Special Committee is expecting support and cooperation from the Government and relevant ministries towards the full implementation of the child rights enshrined in the CRC.
