The Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry Research group organized the 9th annual conference, on 10th and 11th September 2019, at London, UK. The Cultural International Mental Health Conference (CIMH). The central theme of the conference was around the prevention of suicide and self-harm and how one can facilitate and drive the change. The focus of the conference was on low and middle-income countries along with ethnic minority populations within high-income countries. Mr. Riaz Fatyana quoted in his speech that “suicide is a criminal offense according Pakistani law and one can face prison, fine or both while committing suicide. This is nowhere in the rest of the world. According to the new research findings such people needs psychological help and support to prevent them from committing suicide.” He concluded by saying that, mental disorders are identified as a global barrier to sustainable development, in order to achieve SDGs, we have to understand the complexity of the mental health illness, work for creating awareness among people and provide them best healthcare.
